These paintings are greatly influenced by Penny’s Aunt Elizabeth who loved to paint the local little creatures and urged Penny to ‘do your own’. They are fun and entertaining to design and paint and depict the west coast birds and sea creatures in a whimsical and light-hearted fashion. There is no shortage of inspiration for these works as the Gulf Islands abound in wildlife and stunning scenery. Their expressions demand a relationship, as they often look the viewers in the eye seeking communication and maybe the sharing of a joke or two.
