Far removed from the bustle of city life, yet only a short ferry ride away are British Columbia's Gulf Islands. Dubbed "the jewel" of these islands is Galiano, where Penny calls home. It is here that people are blessed with the peaceful, community-minded lifestyle that others can only dream of.
Galiano is as rich in natural beauty as it is, for Penny, in personal history. A vibrant community of 1,200, Galiano is home to retirees, professionals working from their island homes, pioneer families, artists, writers and young families.
The inspiration for Penny's Island Scenes works was drawn from the people and activities around her. These works were created when Penny's two daughters attended school on Saltspring Island. During this period in their lives, Penny and her family would spend weekdays on Saltspring and weekend at their home on Galiano.
