In recent months Penny’s work has taken an exploratory and introspective turn. Previous, self-imposed rules are being dismantled and a newfound freedom is finding its way into the pieces. They are larger in size and mainly acrylic on canvas, allowing for more drama of color and a longer timeframe for completion. Subject matter is both personal and universal and a timeless sense of mystery is apparent in this contemporary west coast art. The past whimsy is now intertwined with something more serious and insistent.
