These paintings are fun and entertaining to design and paint. They depict the west coast birds and sea creatures in a whimsical, light-hearted way. Their expressions hope for a relationship, as they often look the viewers in the eye seeking communication and maybe the sharing of a joke or two.

The inspiration for my Island Scenes is drawn from the people and activities around me; the quaint island lifestyle and local townscapes. It is satisfying to capture these moments as things change and they often become historical works.

In recent months my work has taken an exploratory and introspective turn. Previous, self-imposed rules are being dismantled and a newfound freedom is finding its way into the pieces. Subject matter is both personal and universal and a timeless sense of mystery is apparent in this contemporary west coast art. The past whimsy is now intertwined with something more serious and insistent.
