Hello,
I am a painter from way back and seem to be hooked for life.
I live on Galiano Island, a small community off of Canada’s West Coast, midway between the mainland of British Columbia and Vancouver Island. I have spent much of my life on this enchanted isle, surrounded by spectacular scenery, wildlife and many rather odd, quaint people.
I first discovered that painting was an acceptable pastime by watching my Aunt. She loved to paint the local creatures and experimented with some rather strange subjects such as Beethoven and squashed frogs. She would sell her work at the local August Fiesta for 12 or 16 dollars or so in the beginning and 3 or 4 hundred towards the end. So eventually painting became my passion. I love the challenge and wonder of the blank page, of mixing intellect and curiosity with the wonderful colours of paint to create the painting of the moment.
I feel excited by the surprises, and am leaning more towards abstract painting as I grow. Painting for me is a means of both self-discovery and communication.
Acrylics are presently my materials of choice and the size of my works vary from murals to miniatures. I show only on Galiano and my works are held in the collections of art lovers around the world.
I studied formally at Langara College in Vancouver and also at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design. I've participated in workshops with many local and international artists such as Gordon Caruso, Molly Lamb Boback, Leslie Poole and Gordon Smith.
Sincerely yours,
